Donation Relay in Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do... A 'Warm Breeze' in the Community Despite the Cold Wave

[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, shared continuous news of sharing from local residents, companies, and social organizations.


According to Jangseong-gun on the 4th, on the 24th of last month, Kyungdong Construction Industry Co., Ltd. (Chairman Kim Seongsu) and Wonsystem Co., Ltd. (CEO Park Cheolseung) set an example with their “generous donations.”


Kyungdong Construction Industry Co., Ltd. donated 1,000 winter jumpers worth about 100 million KRW to the county for low-income elderly residents in the Jangseong area.


Wonsystem Co., Ltd. also delivered 960,000 triple-layer masks to the county to donate to low-income residents and social welfare facilities. The items, worth about 100 million KRW, had their transportation costs covered by Kim Youngil, chairman of the Jangseong-gun Forestry Cooperative.


Donations from local residents continued as well. On the 23rd, Bukil Nanumhoe (Chairman Kim Yongju) visited the Bukil-myeon Administrative Welfare Center in Jangseong-gun and donated 50 boxes of ramen. Bukil Nanumhoe is a group of alumni from the 3rd graduating class of Sinheung Middle School and has been steadily engaged in sharing activities for over 10 years.


The Green Jangseong 21 Promotion Council (Chairman Im Kyungtaek), a local social organization in Jangseong, also delivered warmth to neighbors.


Over two days, the 24th and 25th, the council visited 75 households in the area, delivering items such as insulation air caps, heating tents, thermos bottles, and bottled water, while providing guidance on cold wave response measures.


Founded in 1999, the Green Jangseong 21 Promotion Council carries out various activities for environmental protection and carbon neutrality.


The Samgye-myeon Youth Association visited 20 elderly households in Hwasan-ri and Naegye-ri, Samgye-myeon, on the 25th, replacing old fluorescent and incandescent bulbs with LED lights. They also conducted fire prevention safety inspections in cooperation with the Samgye 119 Safety Center.


On the same day, the Samseo-myeon Welfare Task Force visited homes of elderly living alone in the area, working hard on house repairs such as bathhouse and ceiling repairs and wall insulation installation.


The Samseo-myeon Welfare Task Force plans to continue helping neighbors frequently next year, leading a team composed of experts and volunteers in fields such as electricity, plumbing, and wallpapering.


Women’s organizations proudly showcased their “handmade flavors” for neighbors. On the 30th, members of the Jangseong-gun Women’s Association Council (Chairman Jang Youngae) made 1,200 heads of kimchi and delivered them to 450 households including elderly living alone, disabled people, and grandparent-grandchild families.


The Jangseong-gun Women’s Association Council is a coalition formed by 10 women’s organizations in the Jangseong area. Along with this, the Nam-myeon Saemaeul Women’s Association shared homemade red pepper paste with 80 households, and the Nam-myeon Youth Association added warmth by supporting 17 bags of 20kg white rice.


The Samgye-myeon Saemaeul Leaders Association and Women’s Association also rolled up their sleeves to share kimchi with neighbors. Members made 300 heads of kimchi and delivered them to 37 villages in the area, checking on the well-being of elderly residents.


On the 1st, Jangseong-gun public officials and executives and staff of the Jangseong Food Integrated Support Center Foundation also participated in kimchi sharing. On that day, the staff prepared about 100 heads of kimchi and delivered them to neighbors in need. The kimchi ingredients were sponsored by From Kimchi, a vendor at the Gwangju area Jangseong Local Food Direct Store.


Kim Hanjong, Jangseong-gun governor, said, “Practicing love for neighbors is making the community a better and more beautiful place to live,” adding, “I sincerely thank everyone and will make more meticulous efforts to resolve welfare blind spots in the county.”
