Dining Expenses Rise 8.6% in November... Jajangmyeon Up 13.3%, Gimbap 12.6%, Ramen 12.4% Increase
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Last month, the prices of all 39 items that make up dining-out costs rose. Although the inflation rate is slowing down, the increase in dining-out expenses remains significant, and prices have risen mainly for foods commonly enjoyed by the working class, continuing to burden them.
According to Statistics Korea on the 4th, the dining-out price index for November was 113.48, up 8.6% compared to the same month last year. While the increase has slowed from 9.0% in September and 8.9% in October, it remains at a high level, and all items surveyed by Statistics Korea saw price hikes this month as well.
By item, the price of Jajangmyeon surged 13.3%, showing the largest increase, followed by Gimbap (12.6%), Ramyeon (12.4%), Hamburger (12.0%), and Haejang-guk (Hangover Soup) (11.8%).
Tteokbokki (11.7%), Kalguksu (11.6%), Donkatsu (10.9%), Jjamppong (10.8%), Galbitang (10.4%), and Samgyeopsal (10.1%) also recorded double-digit growth rates.
Prices of alcoholic beverages such as Soju (9.7%), Beer (9.4%), and Makgeolli (5.3%) also increased.
Among the total 39 dining-out items, 37 items (94.9%) had an increase rate of 5% or more. All these items exceeded last month's overall inflation rate of 5.0%. Even the items with the lowest increase rates in dining-out, juk (rice porridge) and other beverages, rose by 2.9% and 2.5%, respectively.
The contribution of dining-out to last month's inflation rate of 5.0% was calculated at 1.10 percentage points.
