Shinan-gun Launches 'Everyday Water Conservation Practice Campaign'

'Using a Brick in a Dual-Flush Toilet'

Shinan-gun Launches 'Everyday Water Conservation Practice Campaign'

[Sinan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Jeonnam Sinan-gun is doing its best to save water amid an extreme drought not seen in over 50 years, and is promoting a campaign to place bricks in toilet cisterns as a simple water-saving practice in daily life.

On the 30th of last month, 48,000 bricks were quickly distributed to all towns and townships, and they plan to install them in households, public institutions, and public restrooms?places with high water usage?to encourage small water-saving actions in daily life.

The bathroom is the place in the home where the most water is used. In particular, placing bricks in the toilet cistern can save water equivalent to the volume of the bricks. Because the bricks reduce the space for water, it can reduce the water consumption per flush, which is normally 6 to 10 liters, by about 30%, or an average of 2 liters.

Park Woo-ryang, mayor of Sinan-gun, said, “To wisely overcome the drought, the participation of all residents is urgently needed, and small water-saving practices in daily life starting from oneself are the most important.”

Meanwhile, Sinan-gun plans to continue water-saving campaigns that can be practiced in daily life, such as doing laundry and dishwashing together and reducing shower time, and to encourage voluntary participation from residents and related organizations and groups.
