[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Hampyeong County launched a 'Water Saving Campaign' to raise awareness about the severe water shortage caused by extreme drought and appealed for the participation of all residents.
On the 2nd, according to the county, the 'Water Saving Campaign in Daily Life' was promoted in the morning, focusing on areas with high foot traffic such as Hampyeong Cheonji Traditional Market and the bus terminal.
About 30 people participated in this campaign, including Lee Sang-ik, the mayor of Hampyeong County, county officials, and employees of the Korea Water Resources Corporation Hampyeong Water Center.
The county promoted practical water-saving methods in daily life using pamphlets and placards, such as ▲doing laundry with accumulated clothes ▲reusing dishwashing water ▲reducing shower time ▲using a cup for brushing teeth, aiming for a 20% water saving.
Additionally, through collaboration with the heads of 9 towns and townships, water-saving village broadcasts were conducted, and banners were posted in each town and township to encourage the participation of all residents in overcoming the drought.
Mayor Lee Sang-ik said, "If each resident saves 20% of water, it is expected that water can be supplied without problems until the start of next year's rainy season (June). We ask for the active participation of all residents."
Meanwhile, to proactively respond to the drought crisis, Hampyeong County held a 'Comprehensive Drought Response Meeting' chaired by Vice Mayor Lee Byung-yong on the 29th of last month.
Also, until the drought situation ends, the county plans to operate a 'Drought Countermeasure Situation Room' to continuously carry out water-saving promotional activities such as campaigns, disaster text messages, and village broadcasts.
