[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, achieved the highest performance in the 2022 Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease Prevention and Management Project performance evaluation hosted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, receiving the Minister of Health and Welfare Award.

According to Nam-gu on the 2nd, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency conducts an annual evaluation of projects presented by local governments nationwide to discover excellent policies related to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular precursor diseases such as hypertension and diabetes.

In this evaluation, 30 local governments nationwide received awards, and among them, 20 local governments including Nam-gu achieved the highest performance and were awarded the Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation.

Nam-gu is the only local government in the Gwangju area to receive the Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation.

This year, Nam-gu focused all efforts on the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease prevention and management project to promote the health of local residents by utilizing human and material resources in the community centered around the public health center.

In particular, from a scientific approach to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, data such as the National Health Survey and community health statistics were analyzed to establish project plans suitable for the health level of local residents, and customized programs tailored to the health status of the target population were provided, receiving favorable evaluations.

In fact, Nam-gu Public Health Center conducted the "Know Your Vascular Numbers" campaign 19 times for early detection and intensive management of chronic diseases, managing the health of 3,134 residents in the district, and has been making efforts to improve health through self-management for 17,513 registered chronic disease patients in the district.

Additionally, in cooperation with local medical institutions, a project supporting diabetes complication examination fees for 871 residents was promoted, and precise examination support for high-risk cardiovascular and cerebrovascular residents has led efforts to eliminate risk factors for complications.

Along with this, various information has been provided through newsletters and the website issued by the district office, video broadcasts, and the importance of chronic disease prevention and management has been widely promoted through SNS publicity and campaigns.

A Nam-gu official stated, “Since early detection and treatment are important for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, our public health center has devoted all efforts to proactive responses for improving community health,” and added, “We will continue to promote customized cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease prevention projects to contribute to the improvement of the health level of local residents.”
