‘PGA star attraction’ Kim Joo-hyung (photo) smiled brightly. On the first day of the Hero World Challenge (total prize money $3.5 million) held on the 1st (local time) at Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas (par 72, 7,414 yards), Kim finished tied for first place (3-under 69) and said, "It was great to officially meet and talk with Tiger Woods (USA) for the first time," smiling, "It was a fantastic experience."

This tournament is hosted by Woods. Although it is not a regular PGA Tour event, only the top 20 players can participate. The winner's prize is $1 million (about 1.3 billion KRW), with world ranking points also at stake. Woods withdrew due to pain in his right foot.

- You competed against world-class players. How was it?

▲ I was given the opportunity to play in a big tournament. I try to do my best every week. I have maintained good form so far. I am satisfied with the good start on the first day.

- You had a bogey-free round.

- That's right. There were many good opportunities today. I could have made a few more birdies, but there were difficulties such as the wind. I think I can play well in the remaining three days as well.

- Please explain the situation on the 18th hole (par 4).

▲ It was about 190 yards, and I hit a 5-iron. The wind direction changed frequently, making club selection difficult. I chose a club sufficient to clear the water hazard. My caddie, Joe Scobron, picked the optimal club.

- It rained for two days. How was the course?

▲ The course is quite soft. Compared to yesterday, it was a bit drier, but it still seems quite soft.

- You met Woods for the first time. How was it?

▲ We had almost casual conversations. Woods said he was disappointed not to participate in this week's tournament. It was great to officially meet and talk with Woods for the first time. It was such a fantastic experience that I had to pinch myself to see if it was a dream.

- When did you first meet Woods unofficially?

▲ It was at the 2020 PGA Championship. I also took a photo with Woods. It wasn't a selfie; my caddie took it.

- Do you listen to songs by EXO or BTS?

▲ I don't listen to boy group songs much, but I do listen to BTS. They have achieved great success and have played a role in promoting Korea worldwide. It's great that they are global stars and popular.

- You have been recognized as a player to watch on the tour.

▲ I am grateful to be able to play on the PGA Tour at age 20. I have worked very hard to get here. I am enjoying every moment.
