Section Chief Song Chang-geun's Passionate Efforts Recognized for Quarantine Activities and Environmental Improvements for Elderly Living Alone and Vulnerable Groups
Sharing Warm Compassion by Devoting Personal Time Even on Days Off
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks announced on the 2nd that it received a commendation from the Governor of Jeollanam-do on the 1st in recognition of the active practice of neighborly love by its employees and their families.
Manager Song Chang-geun of the Hot Rolling Department 3 Hot Rolling Plant at Gwangyang Steelworks, who is active in the talent volunteer group "Dolbogo Salpigo," was honored with the Governor of Jeollanam-do Commendation at the "2022 Jeollanam-do Volunteer Conference" held at the Jeollanam-do Provincial Office on the same day.
The "Dolbogo Salpigo" talent volunteer group conducts volunteer activities targeting elderly living alone and underprivileged groups in the Gwangyang area, with a total of 67 members sharing warm affection in the local community through the practice of a sharing culture.
They improve the living environment of elderly living alone through lifestyle quarantine using EM, an eco-friendly microorganism composed of photosynthetic bacteria, yeast, and lactic acid bacteria, and provide quarantine daily necessities kits to help neighbors in need maintain a healthy life.
Manager Song Chang-geun, the awardee of the volunteer conference, personally made eco-friendly EM solutions and carried out quarantine activities at major traditional markets in the region such as 5-Day Market, Jungma Market, Gwangyeong Market, and at homes of elderly living alone in Gwangyang-eup, demonstrating meticulous care for neighbors.
In particular, on his days off from shift work, he devoted his personal time to sharing culture by volunteering at the YWCA Gwangyang-eup free meal center, distributing lunch boxes to seniors, delivering lunch boxes, and washing dishes.
Furthermore, he practiced neighborly love in various ways to ensure no neighbors were left out, including ▲ making welfare calls to elderly living alone, ▲ preparing birthday tables, ▲ participating in table tennis classes for the disabled, and ▲ serving as a selection committee member for the POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation projects. He also actively participated in regular sponsorships for vulnerable groups beyond his direct reach, such as ▲ regular sponsorship of POSCO Africa Children and ▲ Gwangyang City Love Sharing Foundation and other welfare institutions.
At the awards ceremony, Manager Song Chang-geun said, "Thanks to the meticulous care and support of our volunteer members, we were able to continue our volunteer activities," and added, "We will continue to actively practice a sharing culture so that the underprivileged in our community are not left out."
Meanwhile, employees’ family members, including wives of Gwangyang Steelworks employees, also received commendations from the Governor of Jeollanam-do on the same day for their volunteer activities. ▲ Kim Wol-rye, a member of the POSCO Maeumium Talent Volunteer Group, ▲ Park Chun-hee, a member of the Love Sharing Volunteer Group, and ▲ Hwang Ho-soon, a member of the Saemaeul Women’s Association, among other employee family members, shared the joy of receiving recognition for their active practice of a sharing culture.
