[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Fire Safety Headquarters (Chief Park Geun-o) announced on the 2nd that it ranked first among 19 city and provincial fire headquarters in the 2022 disaster site emergency response training evaluation.
The disaster site emergency response training hosted by the National Fire Agency is conducted annually to prepare for large-scale disasters with multiple casualties. It aims to strengthen the ability to handle multiple casualties through initial emergency teams’ patient severity classification and emergency treatment, the performance and operation of on-site emergency medical posts, and the establishment of cooperative systems and integrated response capabilities with related organizations.
Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters and the Eastern Fire Station conducted disaster site emergency response training on October 7 at the Jeju Global Research Center of the Korea Institute of Energy Technology in Gujwa-eup, Jeju City, assuming a disaster situation with multiple casualties caused by fire and building collapse due to an earthquake. This was held concurrently with a large-scale comprehensive emergency rescue training involving a total of about 200 participants from 21 related organizations and groups.
The National Fire Agency, Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the joint evaluation team of cities and provinces directly toured the training sites of 19 city and provincial fire headquarters nationwide, including Jeju, and as a result, Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters received the highest score nationwide.
The evaluation team praised the 119 emergency medical technicians for their appropriate and prompt mission execution, active mobilization and utilization of resources from related organizations, effective operation of new disaster response equipment such as multiple casualty transport buses and fire drones, demonstrating excellent teamwork.
Park Geun-o, Chief of the Fire Safety Headquarters, said, “This achievement is the result of the team members’ dedicated training and teamwork building.” He added, “We will continue to strengthen the on-site response capabilities of emergency medical technicians and strive to provide high-quality 119 emergency services.”
Meanwhile, Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters has achieved outstanding results in the quality of emergency services, maintaining a top national ranking in the pre-hospital return of spontaneous circulation rate for cardiac arrest patients, and was selected last year as the best institution nationwide in the quality management of 119 emergency services.
