Hanmi Semiconductor Launches 3rd Generation New EMI Shield Equipment

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Semiconductor equipment company Hanmi Semiconductor announced on the 2nd that it has launched the 3rd generation new ‘EMI Shield Vision Detach 2.0 DRAGON,’ a semiconductor electromagnetic interference shielding process essential equipment with significantly improved performance.

The EMI shield process is an advanced process that sputters metals such as stainless steel and copper onto the surface of semiconductor chips to prevent electromagnetic waves from semiconductor chips embedded in electronic devices from interfering with the operation of other chips and causing malfunction. It has been used since 2016 in the manufacturing of semiconductor chips for various electronic devices such as smartphones.

Hanmi Semiconductor Vice Chairman Dongshin Kwak introduced, "The 3rd generation new EMI Shield Vision Detach 2.0 DRAGON is equipment that performs the process of recognizing and detaching the position of semiconductor packages on the sputtering table through precise positioning."

He added, "Compared to previous models, productivity has been improved by applying a dual concept picker," and explained, "It features a force control function applied to each picker, greatly enhancing stability without reducing UPH (Unit Per Hour)."

Hanmi Semiconductor launched EMI shield equipment in 2016, when global IT companies such as Apple, Qualcomm, and Broadcom adopted the EMI shield process. It achieved sales of approximately 37 billion KRW. It is a leading company in EMI shield equipment that achieved the world’s number one market share within four years of launching in 2020. The EMI shield process is gaining attention as an essential process not only for smart terminals and the Internet of Things (IoT) but also for automotive electronics in electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles, low-earth orbit satellite communication services, and urban air mobility (UAM).

Founded in 1980, Hanmi Semiconductor has 42 years of experience and competitiveness, and is a semiconductor equipment company with an average export ratio of over 77% compared to sales over the past 10 years. In May of this year, it was the only Korean semiconductor company selected by TechInsights, a global semiconductor research institute, as one of the ‘Best Semiconductor Equipment Companies in the 2022 Customer Satisfaction Survey’ alongside ASML, Applied Materials, and Lam Research.
