US Weekly Unemployment Claims at 225,000... Decrease Greater Than Expected

[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] The U.S. Department of Labor announced on the 1st (local time) that the number of new unemployment insurance claims last week (November 20-26) decreased by 16,000 to 225,000 compared to the previous week. This decrease exceeded market expectations (a decrease of 5,000).


The number of continuing unemployment insurance claims, which are filed for at least two weeks, increased by 57,000 to 1.61 million. This is the highest level since last February. Continuing unemployment claims are counted based on data from two weeks prior.
