'Gangwon Region National Cemetery' Selected in Deokchon-ri, Hoengseong-gun Area The area of Deokchon-ri, Gonggeun-myeon, Hoengseong-gun, selected as the site for the National Memorial Cemetery in the Gangwon region [Gangwon-do]

[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] The site for the Gangwon region National Veterans Cemetery has been selected as Deokchon-ri area in Deokchon-myeon, Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon-do.


Gangwon-do announced on the 1st, "After evaluating seven candidate sites for the Gangwon region National Veterans Cemetery submitted by Hoengseong, Yanggu, and Yeongwol counties in Gangwon to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, the Deokchon-ri area in Gonggeun-myeon, Hoengseong-gun was finally selected and announced."


The Gangwon region National Veterans Cemetery will be developed by 2028 with a total project cost of 43.3 billion KRW, accommodating 20,000 graves. It will be designed not only as a simple memorial space but also as an experiential space to remember history and an eco-friendly resting area.


Once the national cemetery is established, it will be used as a place for security education and patriotism experiences for visitors including not only the bereaved families of the interred but also students and citizens.


Park Min-sik, head of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, said, "The Gangwon region National Cemetery will be the seventh National Veterans Cemetery to be established, and we expect to provide the highest level of respect and convenience for the interred."


Kim Jin-tae, Governor of Gangwon-do, stated, "Considering that most of the interment candidates are elderly, we will spare no effort in administrative support, including land compensation and permits for infrastructure such as access roads, to ensure the cemetery opens in 2028."
