Easy and Convenient Tourism for Families with Disabled, Elderly, and Infants
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sacheon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 2nd that it was selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's public project, the '2023 Open Tourist Site Development Project,' on November 29th.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization have finalized the selection of 20 tourist sites across 9 local governments nationwide, including Sacheon City, as beneficiaries of the '2023 Open Tourist Site Development Project,' with Sacheon being the only city selected in Gyeongnam.
The 'Open Tourist Site Development Project' aims to eliminate mobility inconveniences within tourist sites for vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, the elderly, families with infants and young children, and pregnant women, making tourism easy and convenient for all citizens.
Following this selection, Sacheon City will renovate and improve tourist sites including Sacheon Sea Cable Car, Choyangdo Island, and Samcheonpo Bridge Park with a total project budget of 1.5 billion KRW starting in 2023, through expert consulting on 'Barrier-Free Living Environment Certification,' to enable all citizens to enjoy tourism easily and conveniently.
In particular, the city will improve slopes, level differences, and walkways, and install electric wheelchair chargers to alleviate mobility difficulties for vulnerable tourists within the sites. It will also develop unique experiential tourism content that all citizens can enjoy.
A city official stated, "With the selection as an open tourist site, we expect tourism in Sacheon City to be revitalized. By considering the perspective of vulnerable tourists and creating open tourist sites, we anticipate the surrounding commercial districts will also be revitalized."
