[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Studio Santa Claus Entertainment recently announced on the 1st that, following the recent Korea-China summit, it plans to actively import Chinese dramas along with opening Korean movie services on Chinese online video services (OTT).
The company expects to actively import Chinese dramas as Korean content can officially re-enter the Chinese market for the first time in six years since China imposed the Hanhanryeong (限韓令, Korean Wave ban).
The Chinese drama imported by the company, "Nasoja Bulgae," has been airing since October on Chinese platforms Tencent and iQIYI.
Adapted from the popular novel "Choi Maengbopo," the work is a light and cheerful romantic comedy. The male and female leads are played by "You Teuk," a former contestant of the Chinese version of Produce 101, and "Ryeong Misa," known domestically for the Chinese drama "Myeongwol Joasim," boasting outstanding visuals of the main cast.
A representative from Studio Santa Claus stated, "We decided to import this work as it can quench the thirst of many who missed the unique atmosphere of Chinese dramas during the period when cultural exchanges with China were not smooth. With the recent opening of Chinese OTT platforms, we expect active cultural exchanges between Korea and China, and we aim to be a channel that provides high-quality content not only domestically but also to China."
