[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] On the 1st, Incheon City held an unveiling ceremony for a sculpture wishing for the hosting of the '2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit' at the Ae(愛)tteul Square in front of City Hall.
The sculpture is shaped like the English word Incheon and is designed so that citizens can stand in the space before the letter 'I' to replace the alphabet, allowing citizens to feel both pride and fun.
The city plans to use the sculpture for SNS (social networking service) photo events wishing for the hosting of the APEC Summit in the future.
The APEC Summit is an annual meeting attended by about 6,000 people including leaders and ministers from 21 Asia-Pacific countries, consisting of the summit, ministerial meetings, and business meetings.
It is scheduled to be held domestically in November 2025, 20 years after being held in Busan in 2005, and currently Incheon, along with Busan, Jeju, and Gyeongju, have expressed their intention to host and are competing.
Earlier, Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok visited the APEC Secretariat in Singapore last September and conveyed the intention to host the meeting to the Secretary-General.
This month, the city plans to form a pan-citizen hosting committee for the APEC Summit and intensify hosting activities by gathering support from all walks of life.
An official from Incheon City stated, "Incheon is a global city where 15 international organizations, including the Green Climate Fund (GCF), are active, and it is the optimal city to realize APEC's three main goals: trade and investment, innovation and digital economy, and inclusive and sustainable growth."
