Appeal for 20% Water Saving Participation by All Citizens in Daily Life, Drought Countermeasures Headquarters Activated
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] On the 1st, Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) conducted a campaign titled ‘20% Participation in Water Conservation in Daily Life’ in the area around Goheung-eup to raise awareness of the severity of the drought and to establish a culture of water saving.
About 70 public officials, including Governor Gong Young-min, participated in the campaign, focusing on promoting practical water-saving methods in daily life to create a social atmosphere where practicing water conservation leads to reduced water usage.
The campaign participants used banners, flyers, and promotional materials to encourage citizens to save water by promoting actions such as ▲doing laundry in batches ▲washing dishes with collected water ▲placing water bottles in toilet tanks ▲using a cup for brushing teeth ▲lowering water pressure on faucets ▲cutting shower time in half.
Additionally, the campaign aimed to raise awareness of the importance of traffic safety and foster a social atmosphere for active participation in safety culture movements. In December, a ‘Thank You’ traffic safety campaign was also conducted concurrently to promote traffic safety rules for pedestrians.
A Goheung-gun official stated, “We must make water conservation a daily habit to protect the lives and property of our citizens from drought disasters,” and added, “We ask for the active cooperation and participation of the citizens in overcoming the drought.”
Meanwhile, Goheung-gun has activated a drought countermeasure headquarters to implement sector-specific measures for domestic and agricultural water use, monitor drought conditions, and prepare long-term water supply plans to minimize drought damage.
