“No Acceptance of Public Office Offers or Solicitation” Promise of Calm Municipal Administration

Hong Nampyo, mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, who was indicted by the prosecution on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act, made a statement on the 1st.
Regarding the charges for which he was indicted the day before, Mayor Hong dismissed them, saying, “As I stated at the press conference on November 4th, I never offered a public office to anyone during the election process, and even after being elected, when a specific person requested a public office, I politely declined.”
“I have run forward like a rhinoceros horn, looking only at the citizens, even giving up holidays, to meet the expectations of the citizens who supported me in the last election and for the development of Changwon,” he said, adding, “I will promptly and neatly organize the pending projects as I originally intended.”
He also mentioned that they have identified and prepared improvement directions regarding practices such as the application for designation of a new national industrial complex, securing national funds, deterioration of fiscal soundness, and neglect of project execution based on basic related laws and principles.
Mayor Hong said, “Starting this month, we will proceed with the major projects that were reviewed with priorities one by one,” and added, “I will strengthen communication with all social classes and, regardless of left or right ideology, work with anyone to prepare for Changwon’s future without any deviation, holding the same mindset as when I first took office.”
