Simultaneous Acquisition of ISO 27001 and ISO 27017
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] Samsung Electronics has obtained two international standard certifications related to cloud technology.
Samsung Electronics announced on the 1st that it simultaneously acquired 'ISO 27001 (Information Security Management System)' and 'ISO 27017 (Cloud Service Information Security Management System),' which are established by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and certified by BSI (British Standards Institution).
The MX Division, responsible for mobile devices such as smartphones, proved that the management system and information security of its self-operated 'private cloud' for services like device software updates are at the global highest level through this certification acquisition.
ISO 27001 is one of the authoritative certifications in the field of information security, established based on the 'Information Security Management System (BS7799)' standard defined by BSI in 1999. To obtain this certification, 11 areas including information security policy and access control, and 133 management criteria must be met.
ISO 27017 can only be obtained when cloud service environments and information security management are established and operated according to international standards.
BSI stated, "In a rapidly growing business environment, the importance of cloud technology and information security is increasing," and added, "Through this audit, we confirmed that Samsung Electronics' private cloud system operation capability and security meet international standards."
Ahn Giljun, Vice President and Head of the Mobile Platform Center at Samsung Electronics MX Division, said, "Samsung Electronics has been striving to secure cloud technology and strengthen security capabilities," and added, "We will continue to thoroughly protect the private cloud system in operation and ensure that Samsung Electronics' various services operate safely."
