[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a condolence message to Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding the death of former Chinese President Jiang Zemin, the Kremlin announced on the 30th (local time).
According to Sputnik News on the same day, President Putin stated in the condolence message, "The important period in modern Chinese history, characterized by great achievements in economic and social development and the strengthening of international status, is inseparably linked to the name of this outstanding politician," and expressed "deep condolences on the passing of former President Jiang."
President Putin also evaluated that former President Jiang made valuable contributions to the development of relations between Russia and China, elevating bilateral relations to a partnership based on trust and a level of strategic cooperation.
He added, "The Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation signed with former President Jiang in 2001 laid the foundation for qualitative growth in overall bilateral relations."
President Putin said, "The bright memory of an authoritative and excellent figure like former President Jiang will remain forever in my heart," and "I extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved family and all friendly Chinese people."
Meanwhile, Jiang Zemin, the third highest leader of China, passed away at 12:13 p.m. China time on the same day while receiving treatment in Shanghai for leukemia and other illnesses.
