A 13-Day-Old Newborn Fell, but the Postpartum Care Center Was Unaware... Police Launch Investigation

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The police have launched an investigation into an incident at a postpartum care center in Busan where a newborn baby, 13 days old, fell from a bed and was transferred to a university hospital intensive care unit after the parents were not promptly informed.

On the 30th, the Busan Saha Police Station announced that they are investigating nursing assistant A at the postpartum care center on charges including professional negligence causing injury.

According to the police, on the 28th at around 1:40 PM, newborn B fell from the treatment table, but A did not inform the parents.

It is known that A was not present at the scene when B fell from the treatment table.

The following day, on the 29th at around 12 PM, B’s parents were informed by the care center about the infant’s fall and transported the baby to a university hospital.

Hospital examinations revealed fractures and cerebral hemorrhage in B, who was transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit and is currently stable.

On the 29th at around 5:50 PM, B’s parents reported the cerebral hemorrhage to the police after hearing the news at the university hospital, and the police have filed a complaint and started an investigation.

A police official stated, “We have secured CCTV footage from the postpartum care center to investigate the circumstances of the baby’s fall,” adding, “Since we are investigating negligence, we cannot disclose detailed information.”
