[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] On the 30th, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon met with Majid Al Hogail, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, at the city hall office to discuss cooperation plans on housing policies.
According to Seoul City on the day, Minister Al Hogail, who visited Korea this time, is known to have played a key role in solving urban issues and establishing policies in Saudi Arabia since his appointment in 2015, based on his diverse activities and extensive experience in real estate development and finance sectors.
In particular, he is deeply involved in the project as a director of Saudi Arabia's national project 'NEOM Megaproject,' which is constructing the world's largest new city.
During the meeting, Mayor Oh and Minister Al Hogail exchanged views on housing policies of both countries, including housing supply for vulnerable groups, and shared Seoul City's experiences in redevelopment and reconstruction.
Minister Al Hogail stated, "I believe South Korea is one of the most essential countries for implementing the latest technologies such as smart cities in advancing Saudi projects," adding, "I hope to meet again in the future to move forward together for innovation and practical cooperation."
He also mentioned the 2022 Qatar World Cup, noting that both Saudi Arabia and Korea face challenging matches ahead, and conveyed a message of support, saying, "I hope Korea wins the match and meets Saudi Arabia in the final."
Mayor Oh said, "I hope Seoul City's experience will actively be shared to aid Saudi policy development," and added, "We will work together to share various policy cases such as smart cities and to promote friendly cooperation."
