Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongsangnam-do, is encouraging the members at the launch ceremony of the Gyeongsangnam-do Social Integration Committee.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Gyeongsangnam-do Social Integration Committee officially launched on the 30th.
The launch ceremony held in the provincial government’s main conference room was attended by Governor Park Wan-su and private committee members appointed from various sectors within the province.
Gyeongnam Province announced that it established the legal basis for the committee by enacting the Ordinance on the Establishment and Operation of the Gyeongsangnam-do Social Integration Committee and appointed 69 private members across 21 fields recommended by 18 cities and counties.
On the day, Governor Park handed appointment letters to the private members, urging them to “be a driving force in overcoming complex and diverse social conflicts and creating a harmonious provincial administration.”
According to the province, the Social Integration Committee will provide advice on ▲ establishing and revising basic directions and strategies for provincial integration ▲ analyzing causes of social conflicts and resolving and preventing them ▲ forming a consensus for provincial integration and spreading related culture.
The committee, chaired by Choi Chung-kyung, vice chairman of the Gyeongnam Regional Council of the National Unification Advisory Council, will operate for two years and members may be reappointed.
The committee’s subcommittees will be established and operated in five areas: labor-management, region, class, generation, and education.
Members will apply for their preferred subcommittee, which will identify social conflict issues in related fields and develop solutions through meetings.
The province will also operate advisory groups for each subcommittee by recommending experts such as researchers from the Gyeongnam Research Institute.
The launch ceremony proceeded in the order of a pre-ceremony performance, appointment letter presentation, greetings, report on committee operation directions, and commemorative photo session.
At the first meeting held afterward, discussions were held on the composition of subcommittees, future schedules, committee operation plans, and agendas to be addressed by the committee and subcommittees, including major conflicts within the province.
Governor Park said, “The Social Integration Committee is not about uniting for the sake of provincial administration but about creating an atmosphere where different opinions are acknowledged and respected. Through efforts to find compromises on issues, Gyeongnam Province will faithfully play the role of a facilitator so that the local community can move forward correctly.”
Chairman Choi said, “I agree that social integration is a timely task that our generation must work together to solve. By pooling wisdom together, the committee will take the lead in finding ways to reduce social conflicts and costs starting from nearby areas, making Gyeongnam a happy and livable province for all residents.”
