[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The 'Gyeonggi-do Public Interest Activity Support Center Northern Branch,' which supports the public interest activities of civic groups, has opened.

On the 30th, Gyeonggi-do held a plaque ceremony for the Gyeonggi-do Public Interest Activity Support Center Northern Branch on the 2nd floor of the Gyeonggi Northern Chamber of Commerce and Industry building in Singok-dong, Uijeongbu City, and announced that it has begun full-scale activities.

The building houses the Gyeonggi Northern Childcare Comprehensive Support Center and the Gyeonggi-do Welfare Center for the Visually Impaired. Nearby is the Gyeonggi-do Village Community Support Center, facilitating smooth business cooperation.

The center consists of two teams: Change Support and Strategic Projects, with a total staff of seven. The center's space covers a total area of 292㎡ (88 pyeong) and includes collaboration spaces for public interest activists and civic groups, meeting rooms, and a citizen cafe as a resting area.

Since the center provides a support base for civic groups in northern Gyeonggi-do who had difficulty accessing the existing southern center (located in Paldal-gu, Suwon City), the province plans to continuously promote projects such as ▲support for nonprofit startups ▲growth support for public interest activists ▲operation of a public interest activity counseling office ▲support for revitalizing public interest activities ▲2023 Public Interest Activity 'Partner Fair in Gyeonggi' ▲Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Ecological Peace Project ▲1 Company-1 Organization Participation Campaign.

Kim Young-cheol, Director of the Communication and Cooperation Bureau of Gyeonggi-do, said, "To solve various issues in Gyeonggi-do, voluntary and active participation of citizens is required," and added, "We hope the opening of the Gyeonggi-do Public Interest Activity Support Center Northern Branch will be of practical help to many nonprofit organizations and activists in the province."

Meanwhile, 2,334 nonprofit private organizations are registered in the province, engaging in various fields such as welfare and social services, volunteering, and international exchange.
