Daegu Companies Suffer Growing Losses Due to Cargo Solidarity Union Strike... Production Disruption (46%), Delivery Disruption (34%) Daegu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] Companies in the Daegu area have been found to suffer damages such as production disruptions, delivery delays, and export delays due to the Cargo Solidarity Union strike.


The Daegu Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced on the 30th, “As a result of a survey conducted over two days on the 28th and 29th targeting 152 companies affected by this strike, the main types of damage identified were ‘production disruptions’ (46.1%) due to delays in raw material supply and customs clearance of imported goods, ‘delivery delays’ (34.9%) caused by difficulties in securing cargo vehicles, and ‘export delays’ (19.7%).”


By industry, the construction sector has been severely affected, with some sites experiencing complete work stoppages.


Although the damage caused by the strike is increasing, most local companies have not taken any special measures (37.1%). The remaining companies responded that they are coping through methods such as ‘schedule postponement/adjustment’ (23.2%) by coordinating with business partners, ‘direct delivery’ (16.6%), ‘securing vehicles’ (9.3%) by paying additional freight charges, and ‘preemptive raw material procurement’ (7.8%) before the strike.


Regarding the Safe Freight System, which was the cause of this Cargo Solidarity Union strike, 4 out of 10 respondent companies answered that it should be extended for 3 years, 23.7% said it should end this year as currently planned, and 19.7% said it was difficult to judge.
