[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education has been operating a clinical training course to train key personnel supporting positive behavior of students with disabilities since August.
This course, conducted for 18 special education teachers in kindergarten, elementary, and middle schools, educates on positive behavior intervention methods at the individual student level and the theory and practice of ethical intervention to ensure a safe and enjoyable school life for students with disabilities.
Positive behavior intervention is a support system that views challenging behaviors of students with disabilities as a form of communication and helps them express themselves positively.
Teachers and families who spend a lot of time with students and communicate closely play a crucial role in identifying the function of behaviors through observation and assessment and establishing appropriate behavior intervention strategies.
Since 2019, the Ulsan Office of Education has supported a behavior intervention expert course for two years, training four experts, and has provided individual behavior intervention support to about 50 students annually.
Next year, they plan to train 16 behavior intervention experts through an advanced course and conduct training to strengthen the competencies of special education teachers.
The Office of Education stated, “Positive behavior support is important not only for solving problems at the individual level but also as a preventive measure for student growth. We plan to support students' positive development next year through expert training, workshops, and behavior intervention.”
