Imsil-gun Selected as the Only 'Open Tourism Site Contest' Winner in the Province

[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk, achieved the remarkable feat of having Saseondae Tourist Site and Osu Uigyeon Tourist Site uniquely selected in the province for the 2023 Open Tourism Site contest project.

On the 30th, the county announced that it was finally selected for the '2023 Open Tourism Site Development Project' hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Tourism Organization, securing 500 million KRW in national funding.

This marks the second selection achievement following Imsil Cheese Theme Park and Okjeongho Oeatnal in 2020.

The Open Tourism Site Development Project is aimed at creating tourist sites that all visitors, including people with disabilities, the elderly, families with infants and young children, and pregnant women, can use safely and conveniently without mobility difficulties or restrictions on tourism activities.

Through this project, improvements such as disabled parking lot maintenance, barrier-free route establishment, disabled restrooms maintenance, tactile and audio guideboards, and rest facility maintenance will be promoted at Saseondae Tourist Site and Osu Uigyeon Tourist Site.

The county plans to finalize detailed plans through expert consulting and invest 1 billion KRW (500 million KRW national funds, 500 million KRW county funds) in two locations, Saseondae Tourist Site and Osu Uigyeon Tourist Site, to create barrier-free travel destinations tailored to the characteristics of each tourist site.

In particular, Osu Uigyeon Tourist Site is emerging as a competitive tourist destination by creating a barrier-free tourism environment where visitors can enjoy with their companion animals.

The county expects Imsil-gun to become a mecca of the companion animal industry by clustering the Osu Pet Memorial Park, which has been operating since last year, the companion animal support center to be built next year, the companion animal specialized agro-industrial complex to be developed in the future, and the companion animal national leisure camping site.

County Governor Shim Min said, “Following the selection of Imsil Cheese Theme Park and Okjeongho Oeatnal in 2020, the county has been selected for the Open Tourism Site Development Project for the second time. In this 2023 contest, being the only one selected in the province, we expect to play a leading role in establishing a barrier-free tourism foundation.”
