Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, visited the National Assembly’s Special Committee on Budget and Accounts on the 29th to secure next year’s national budget.
According to Gyeongnam Province, on that day, Governor Park met with Deputy Prime Minister for Economy Choo Kyung-ho for the third time since his appointment to explain and seek cooperation on projects requesting increased national funding currently under review by the National Assembly for 2023.
He also met consecutively with Woo Won-sik, Chairman of the Budget and Accounts Committee, Lee Cheol-gyu, Budget and Accounts Committee Secretary, and committee members Jeong Jeom-sik and Kim Du-kwan, as well as Assemblyman Kim Young-sun.
He emphasized the feasibility of projects such as measures to improve the efficiency of local government-operated private roads and the establishment of a comprehensive support center for the nuclear power industry, requesting increased national funding during the National Assembly’s review stage.
Governor Park proposed support for ▲a 500 million KRW feasibility study on measures to improve the efficiency of local government-operated private roads to alleviate the national burden ▲a 200 million KRW feasibility study on converting local management trade ports to national status ▲a 600 million KRW support project to advance eco-friendly ship repair and modification platforms.
He also mentioned ▲a 2 billion KRW advanced equipment-robot digital manufacturing innovation support project ▲a 500 million KRW establishment of the Gyeongnam Nuclear Power Industry Comprehensive Support Center ▲a 1 billion KRW support for building a regional win-win supply chain for strategic parts of electrified vehicles.
On the same day, Governor Park visited the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and met with Minister Lee Young.
He proposed ▲the creation of a G-Startup Hub ▲regional balanced support for the Super-gap Startup 1000+ Project ▲support for hosting nationwide startup festivals locally ▲installation of Sodam Square, a specialized digital commerce institution, in Gyeongnam to support small business owners’ online transition.
Governor Park told Minister Lee, “In Gyeongnam, where startup support institutions are dispersed, a space where play, culture, and residence can coexist must be created. Please actively consider enabling many residents to benefit from future startup support and other Ministry of SMEs and Startups projects.”
Minister Lee responded, “We will consider supporting the youth startup academy and campus innovation park planned by Gyeongnam. The Super-gap Startup 1000+ Project will benefit startup companies.”
He added, “We will review linking the startup festival promoted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups with Gyeongnam and will actively consider the installation of Sodam Square in Gyeongnam upon application.”
