[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Gu Daeseon] Chinese international student ‘Deng Di,’ who is pursuing a doctoral program at the Graduate School of Korean Cultural Industry at Andong National University, received the grand prize at the 2022 Chinese International Student College Singing Contest in recognition of his outstanding singing skills and stage manners.


Andong National University announced on the 30th, “At the 6th Chinese International Student College Singing Contest finals held on November 26 at Daegu Opera House, 12 teams of Chinese international students who advanced through regional preliminaries competed fiercely, and Deng Di won the grand prize. The song Deng Di performed was Paul Kim’s ‘Annyeong,’ famous as an insert song from the drama ‘Hotel Del Luna.’”


The Chinese International Student College Singing Contest is an event hosted by the Daegu Chinese Cultural Center and organized by the Korea International Exchange Foundation.


Deng Di is an international student pursuing a doctoral program at the Graduate School of Korean Cultural Industry at Andong National University, majoring in festivals and performances. In China, he is a current faculty member (majoring in announcing) at Zhejiang University of Media and Communications, which is well known in the field of journalism. He has worked as an announcer, voice actor, and singer. He is studying at Andong National University to research excellent Korean cultural industries in the K-content era and contribute to the development of China’s cultural industry.


Deng Di said, “It was a big challenge to sing Korean songs because I am not fluent in Korean. I increased my lung capacity by running every night, sought advice from music experts and friends, and practiced singing more than 500 times by renting places. I am grateful to Professor Munsanwon, my friends who supported me, and the staff of the External Cooperation Office who provided information about the singing contest.”


Since its establishment in 2010, the Graduate School of Korean Cultural Industry at Andong National University has produced 113 graduates (14 doctoral and 99 master’s degree holders). Graduates are active in leading Korean content-related companies such as Kakao Entertainment and Gyeongbuk Cultural Content Agency, as well as cultural foundations across the country, including the Incheon Seo-gu Cultural Foundation. Professor Munsanwon’s majors include cultural arts management, spatial content, festival performance, storytelling, and cultural education.
