[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] The cement industry is forming a joint research and development consortium for 'Government Carbon Neutrality R&D' aimed at disseminating research results for the development of new technologies for national 2050 carbon neutrality.
The Korea Cement Association, which has seven major domestic cement companies as members, held a 'Cement Industry Joint Research and Development Consortium Business Agreement Ceremony' on the 22nd at the association's conference room, attended by representatives from the cement industry, the Korea Cement New Materials Research Union, and the association. They announced that they will actively promote key development projects necessary to lead government carbon neutrality technologies.
Recently, as the government has been promoting a carbon neutrality core industrial technology development project to accelerate the major transition to a decarbonized industrial structure, it provided 282.6 billion KRW, equivalent to 30% of the total project cost, to the cement industry. Accordingly, the cement industry held the agreement ceremony based on a consensus that more effective research project execution is necessary by operating a consortium centered on the association and the union. The cement industry plans to conduct specific research and develop new technologies for carbon neutrality, such as increasing the content of supplementary materials and expanding the application of blended cement technologies, reducing bituminous coal, and increasing the use of waste synthetic resins.
Chairman Lee Hyun-jun said, "The realization of 2050 carbon neutrality, which has been in full swing since last year, is emerging as an important policy issue that can no longer be postponed," adding, "I hope that today's consortium formation will lead future cement industry carbon neutrality R&D research projects and greatly contribute to the growth and development of the cement and related industries through proposals for institutional improvements such as KS standardization."
