Gangnam-gu Develops Augmented Reality 'Play MetaRoad'

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) established Korea's first augmented reality walking trail for domestic and international tourists, called 'Play Meta Road,' on the 29th, spanning from Apgujeong Rodeo Street to Cheongdam Hallyu Star Street.

Similar to the 'Pok?mon Go' game where 3D Pok?mon appear in real spaces when viewed through a smartphone camera, 'Play Meta Road' offers fun digital experiences via smartphone such as ▲XR Store Scan ▲XR Time Sale ▲Stamp Tour ▲MBTI Camera.

'Play Meta Road' can be accessed from the main screen of the Gangnam-gu integrated mobile platform app, 'The Gangnam.'

The Meta Road area includes six locations: ▲in front of the Romeo statue on Apgujeong Rodeo Street ▲Dosan Park ▲in front of the Juliet statue on Apgujeong Rodeo Street ▲Gangnam Stone symbol ▲SM Celebrity Center ▲in front of the BTS Gangnam Stone.

With XR Store Scan, scanning nearby stores with a smartphone allows users to view information on over 40 shops and coupons in the Apgujeong area. Additionally, XR Time Sale events are held twice daily (10 AM to 1 PM and 5 PM to 7 PM). By clicking on gift boxes falling from the sky through the smartphone camera, users can receive discount coupons.

Moreover, there is a Stamp Tour where participants walk the digital walking trail connecting six bases, performing card flipping and XR mini-games to obtain a golden key. Completing the Stamp Tour rewards participants with a golden ticket that grants shopping discount coupons and a completion certificate. At the final base, BTS Gangnam Stone, additional random coupons can be received.

Each person can receive up to six discount coupons, which include ▲one Noted Donut ▲Galleria Department Store coffee 1+1 ▲CGV and Megabox movie tickets with 2,000 KRW discount and 2,000 KRW off concession stands ▲30% discount at COEX Aquarium ▲Devil's Door Truffle Fries giveaway.

Additionally, there is an MBTI Camera where visitors can take selfies against the backgrounds of Apgujeong and Cheongdam-dong. Photos combine with the user's MBTI character to create unique pictures and videos. Plans also include certification shot events combined with media facade videos displayed at the entrances of Apgujeong Rodeo and Cheongdam Luxury Street.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, "The augmented reality walking trail combining digital experiences with existing streets provides various discount benefits through participation of nearby stores, which also helps revitalize the local commercial district. We will continue to enhance Gangnam's appeal with diverse tourism products that allow people to enjoy Gangnam in new ways."

Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it has signed a business agreement with SK Telecom to prevent solitary deaths among socially isolated households and provide community-based care, and will officially operate the 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) Check-in System' starting December 1.

The 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) Check-in System' is a service where an AI counseling robot automatically calls about 300 socially isolated households and annual monitoring 'at-risk' individuals once a week at scheduled times to check on their well-being, health status, and meal intake, providing emotional stability.

The AI counseling robot records and automatically analyzes the responses from the recipients and delivers the information to the responsible staff at the local community service center. The staff then reviews the call details to monitor and provide necessary welfare services and follow-up measures.

Furthermore, the AI control center immediately notifies the local community service center staff if calls are not answered (three attempts at 30-minute intervals) or if risk signs are detected in the conversation. Welfare planners at the community center will directly call to assess the situation, dispatch on-site support immediately, and if necessary, cooperate with emergency services such as 119 and 112 to proactively ensure the safety of the individuals.

In addition, the district is building a smart care system that includes a 'Smart Plug' that checks well-being by analyzing changes in lighting and power consumption, the 'Seoul Salpimi App' which sends alerts to designated numbers if a phone is unused for 12 to 72 hours, and an 'IoT Service' that analyzes movement, temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide levels to monitor safety in real time, making every effort to identify at-risk households.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, "We will actively promote a smart care system for vulnerable groups to ensure Yangcheon-gu becomes a warm and caring community filled with affection."
