[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] On the 29th, Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, instructed the city and provincial police agencies to form special investigation teams regarding the general strike by the Cargo Solidarity Headquarters of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions' National Public Transport Union (Cargo Solidarity).

During a video conference with city and provincial police chiefs that afternoon, Commissioner Yoon said, "Form special investigation teams at the city and provincial police agencies and dedicated investigation teams at police stations to promptly investigate cases once they are reported, focusing on those refusing to return to transportation duties. Please prepare thoroughly." He also emphasized, "Thoroughly investigate not only those refusing to resume work but also the behind-the-scenes forces to ensure the effectiveness of the work commencement order," and added, "The police must take special interest and provide support so that the government's work commencement order can be smoothly enforced." Furthermore, he reiterated, "It is necessary to thoroughly investigate both those refusing to return to work and the behind-the-scenes forces to secure the effectiveness of the work commencement order."

Currently, 76 joint inspection teams, centered on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and involving local governments and the police, are conducting on-site investigations of cement transportation companies. Regarding this, Commissioner Yoon ordered, "Deploy all capabilities, including criminal investigation units and riot police, to ensure that there are no acts obstructing official duties during the joint inspection teams' on-site investigations." He instructed that retaliatory harmful acts such as violence and property damage against those returning to work and non-union members should be dealt with by on-site arrests as a principle, and that riot police, criminal investigation units, and traffic sidecars should be concentrated to proactively prevent illegal activities.
