[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province began operating the 'Cold Wave Response Joint Task Force' at 11 a.m. on the 29th. This is a follow-up measure after the Korea Meteorological Administration issued a cold wave warning for the entire Gyeonggi Province starting at 6 p.m. on the same day.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that from the afternoon of the day, cold air from the north will move southward, causing the morning temperature on the 30th to drop sharply by about 15 degrees compared to the 29th. This cold spell is expected to continue until the 2nd of next month.

The Cold Wave Response Joint Task Force is composed of 12 teams, including the Water Supply and Sewerage Division, Welfare Business Division, Health and Medical Division, Eco-friendly Agriculture Division, Rescue and Emergency Division, led by the head of the Gyeonggi Province Climate Disaster Response Team.

The joint task force maintains a 24-hour emergency duty system with 31 cities and counties, overseeing and inspecting damage and recovery in the water supply sector, emergency treatment for cold-related illnesses, and prevention of damage to agricultural, livestock, and fishery products by each response team.

In particular, the task force conducts focused management such as welfare center and autonomous disaster prevention group visits for approximately 214,000 vulnerable people, including 64,000 elderly living alone and 150,000 health-vulnerable groups such as the disabled.

Additionally, preventive activities are strengthened to prevent pipe bursts, including guidance on insulating water meters and water pipes.

Lee Jin-chan, Director of the Provincial Safety Management Office, held a video conference with disaster departments of cities and counties on the 28th, urging thorough preemptive measures to minimize cold wave damage.

Director Lee requested, "Please strengthen street patrols for disaster-vulnerable groups such as homeless people and thoroughly implement safety measures to prevent casualties by encouraging the use of shelters."
