Students and staff of Ilwol Elementary School practicing neighborly love by distributing goods to underprivileged neighbors in the community through a Warm Winter Event.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] On the 28th, Iwol Elementary School in Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk, delivered 60 sets (120 fish) of Andong salted mackerel and 60 sets of hardtack (worth about 2 million KRW), which the children personally experienced salting, to the Iwol-myeon Office to be given to vulnerable elderly people in the district.
As part of practical character education involving students every year, Iwol Elementary School's faculty and students carry out volunteer activities called “A Warm Winter with Local Elderly,” sharing goods with marginalized neighbors in the community to realize the true meaning of volunteer work and practice neighborly love.
The salted mackerel and hardtack sets filled with the students' warm hearts will be directly delivered to 60 vulnerable elderly households in the district through the village chiefs of 14 villages, who will also check on their living conditions to do their best to eliminate welfare blind spots.
The students who participated in the Warm Winter event said, “I am very proud that this volunteer activity could bring some comfort and joy to the elderly who are having difficulties around us,” and added, “I will continue to observe and think about how I can help our society as I live my life.”
In response, Park Cheonseok, head of Iwol-myeon, said, “I thank the students and faculty of Iwol Elementary School for delivering their hearts through warm sharing for each other,” and added, “We will pay more attention so that the elderly can spend a warm winter during the year-end and New Year holidays and continue to do our best to discover welfare blind spots.”
