[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] The saying "Chicken goes with soccer" proved true once again. On the 28th, when the second group stage match of Group H between Korea and Ghana in the 2022 Qatar World Cup took place, all three chicken franchises recorded sales growth of over 100%.

According to the industry on the 29th, bhc Chicken showed a sales increase rate of a whopping 312% compared to the same week in Jeonju on the 28th. Compared to the previous month, sales rose by 297%. To prepare for the World Cup boom, bhc Chicken tripled the capacity of its app servers and increased logistics deliveries to secure inventory.

BBQ's sales also increased significantly. BBQ's sales rose by 220% compared to the previous month and surged 190% compared to the previous week.

Sales increased by 4% compared to the match against Uruguay held on the 24th. Considering that the delivery app access was unstable on the day of the Uruguay match, BBQ analyzed that the countermeasures prepared ahead of the Ghana match were effective.

Before the Ghana match, BBQ expanded its app servers and deployed specialized personnel to manage the servers in case of emergencies. Additionally, they increased operational staff at each store and stocked up on raw materials over the weekend to prepare for business.

Kyochon Chicken's sales on the same day jumped 150% compared to the previous week and 160% compared to the previous month.

Earlier, sales on the 24th, when the Uruguay match was held, increased by 110% compared to the previous week and 140% compared to the previous month, but sales for the Ghana match surpassed these figures.

Expectations for chicken industry sales are high for the match against Portugal on the 3rd of next month. Especially since the game will be held at midnight transitioning into the weekend, the industry anticipates an increase in chicken orders through delivery by 'home viewers.'
