Relief for 560,000 Farmers Eligible for Public Interest Direct Payments
[Jindo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Namjoong] Yoon Jae-gap, a member of the National Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea, Haenam-Wando-Jindo), recently received the 'Best Member of the National Assembly Award' at the Korea Agriculture Grand Prize from the Korea Rural Leaders Central Association.
The Korea Agriculture Grand Prize, hosted by the Korea Rural Leaders Central Association, is an award given to individuals who have contributed to the development of agriculture and rural areas and the protection of farmers' rights.
Assemblyman Yoon proposed an amendment to the Public Interest Direct Payment Act to allow any farmer to receive public interest direct payments regardless of their history of receiving direct payments, enabling 560,000 farmers to receive direct payments starting next year.
He has contributed to agricultural development by, among other things, leading the amendment of the Grain Management Act to mandate government market isolation measures for excess production when market isolation conditions are met to stabilize rice prices.
Earlier, during the national audit, he pointed out issues such as the abuse of the rural lodging support system through loopholes and the preferential treatment of traditional liquor for Makgeolli made from imported rice, demanding improvements.
Assemblyman Yoon Jae-gap stated, "As a representative of Jeonnam's agricultural and fishery workers, I have worked to reflect the voices from the field in government policies, and as a result, I have received this great award," adding, "I will continue to do my best for the development of our agriculture and rural areas and to resolve current issues."
