[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is seeking to attract film and drama shooting locations to revitalize the commercial area around the old Gyeonggi Provincial Government Building in Paldal-gu, Suwon City, which has been weakened due to the relocation to the new Gwanggyo government office in Yeongtong, Suwon.
On the 29th, Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Content Agency invited about 20 people involved in the video industry, including film and drama producers, directors, and PDs, to hold a 'Location Fam Tour (a promotional on-site inspection)' to support filming at the old Gyeonggi Provincial Government Building.
The old Gyeonggi Provincial Government Building features 1960s modernist design with exposed concrete and terracotta (a type of large tile) exterior decorations. It was designated as a national registered cultural heritage site in 2017. The site covers a total area of 65,900㎡ and includes 10 buildings, including the provincial council, making it suitable as a public institution location shooting site.
A drama has already been scheduled to be filmed early next year using the old Gyeonggi Provincial Government Building as a backdrop. The province is looking for additional productions. Through this location fam tour, the province expects the old Gyeonggi Provincial Government Building to become a local attraction like Suwon Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, where the recently popular dramas "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" and "Our Beloved Summer" were filmed.
The old Gyeonggi Provincial Government Building can be used by any citizen for events and meetings by applying through the Gyeonggi Shared Service, Gyeonggi Province’s integrated reservation system. Various events, including the cherry blossom festival that has been suspended since 2019, will also be actively hosted.
The Gyeonggi Content Agency operates a database of about 2,000 location shooting sites. It supports filming of about 130 video productions annually. Previously, it attracted the currently idle military base in Jakdong, Bucheon City, as a filming location for productions such as "D.P.", "Rookie Cops", and "Yuksa-o".
