[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) announced on the 29th that Commissioner Lee In-sil participated in the 22nd Korea-China-Japan Patent Offices Meeting held via video conference to discuss cooperation and development directions in the field of intellectual property among the countries.

This year's meeting was hosted by the Japan Patent Office. At the meeting, the three countries' patent offices approved the matters discussed in the working-level meetings in fields such as patents, trademarks, designs, trials, and education, and explored future cooperation directions.

In particular, the meeting included the Korea-China-Japan User Symposium, where experts from universities, companies, and other intellectual property sectors from each country exchanged opinions under the theme "Contribution of IP System to Achieving Carbon Neutrality."

The symposium was organized as part of the "Cooperation in the Intellectual Property Field for Carbon Neutrality," agreed upon by the three countries' patent offices and led by KIPO at last year's meeting.

Commissioner Lee In-sil stated, "For over 20 years, the patent offices of Korea, China, and Japan have closely cooperated in patents, trademarks, designs, intellectual property education, trials, and informatization to strive for balanced development of intellectual property systems. Through this meeting, the Patent Office will work to enhance Korea's status as a leading country in the intellectual property field."

Meanwhile, the meeting has been held since 2001 with the purpose of Korea, China, and Japan, as leading countries in intellectual property, joining forces to utilize patent examination information, harmonize patent systems, and form international norms.

As of last year, the total number of patents filed worldwide was 3.401 million, with Korea, China, and Japan accounting for 62.1% of the filings, exceeding half.
