Gwangju City Strengthens Indoor Air Quality Management in Multi-Use Facilities

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kang Ki-jung) is stepping up indoor air quality management in multi-use facilities.

Gwangju City announced on the 29th that it will conduct special guidance and inspections on indoor air quality management in multi-use facilities from next month 1st until the end of March next year in preparation for the implementation of the 4th seasonal fine dust management system.

This special inspection is being promoted to protect citizens' health by managing high concentrations of fine dust from December, when fine dust levels rise due to seasonal factors, until March of the following year.

The inspection targets will focus on 219 multi-use facilities frequently used by many citizens, such as underground stations, indoor parking lots, medical institutions, large stores, and daycare centers.

The main inspection items include checking the installation and operation of ventilation facilities and air purification equipment (such as air purifiers) within the facilities, and verifying compliance with indoor pollutant concentration standards using portable measuring devices.

In addition, in cooperation with the Gwangju Health and Environment Research Institute, pollution tests for indoor harmful substances such as fine dust, formaldehyde, and carbon monoxide will also be conducted.

Lee Jeong-shin, head of the Air Conservation Division of the city, said, “Since this is a period when high concentrations of fine dust frequently occur, we will do our best to strengthen indoor air quality management to create a safe and pleasant living environment.”
