[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jo Hangyu] It has been confirmed that the water levels of Yutangje and Pyeongnim Dam, the water sources of Jangseong-gun, Jeonnam, are below half.
According to the county on the 28th, Yutangje is recording a water storage rate of 55.4%, and Pyeongnim Dam 32.7%, with similar situations for Jangseongho (33%) and Suyangje (49.6%), which supply agricultural water.
Accordingly, the county is urging residents to practice ‘20% water saving in daily life.’
Laundry should be collected and washed together, and PET bottles filled with water should be placed in the toilet tank. Use a cup for brushing teeth and a dishpan instead of running water, and turn off the faucet when soaping during washing your face. The water pressure of the water meter is also lowered.
In farms, mobile sprinklers are installed only when crop drying is severe to supply water partially.
For field crops such as garlic and onions, it is recommended to cover them with straw or rice husks to minimize moisture evaporation.
The county plans to produce flyers with these practical measures and deliver them to each household, and actively promote them through campaigns and village broadcasts.
A county official said, “Efforts to minimize water use not only in daily life but also during farming work are necessary to overcome this drought well,” and “We ask for your participation in saving 20% of water.”
