Gmarket's '2022 Book of the Year' Exhibition Seeking Comfort and Empathy

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Gmarket announced on the 29th that it will introduce the bestsellers of the year by category through the ‘2022 Gmarket Book of the Year’ exhibition.

Held until the 31st of next month, this exhibition covers major books by category as well as the overall bestsellers. Along with the 2022 Top 100 overall bestsellers, visitors can find popular books in categories such as ▲Novels, Essays, Comics ▲Humanities and General Knowledge ▲Economics, Business, and Self-Development ▲Parenting and Education. Among the top 20 bestsellers this year, books based on ‘comfort’ and ‘empathy’ gained attention as daily life recovered with the endemic, while works by star authors and famous influencers also stood out.

The overall bestseller ranked number one was Kim Ho-yeon’s Uncomfortable Convenience Store. Set in a small convenience store on a corner in Cheongpa-dong alley, the work warmly depicts the lives and emotions of our neighbors. It seems to have captured the hearts of readers who needed comfort and laughter during the COVID-19 era. The 2nd and 3rd places were taken by the first and second volumes of Pachinko by Lee Min-jin, which moved the hearts of people worldwide. The story of a Korean immigrant family’s dreams and hopes delivered a message of hope for our lives.

Works by famous star authors such as Kim Hoon’s Harbin, Kim Young-ha’s Farewell, and Oh Eun-young’s How Should I Tell You also made it into the top 20 bestsellers. The self-made YouTuber ‘Jacheong’’s Reverser and the popular YouTuber among children, ‘Heunhan Nam-mae’’s Heunhan Nam-mae series are also popular. In addition, self-development books such as Well Thinking and Rich Dad Poor Dad, as well as children’s and youth literature like The Strange Candy Store Jeoncheon-dang, Long Long Night, and The 143-Story Treehouse were also listed.

A Gmarket official said, “As the year ends, we are holding this exhibition by carefully selecting bestsellers and popular books by category so that people can calmly wrap up the year through books.
