[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] AK Plaza announced on the 29th that it will support the revitalization of the local economy in Wonju, Gangwon Province. AK Plaza signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) the day before at Wonju City Hall to support small business owners and marginalized groups within Wonju.

The signing ceremony was attended by Yuseongryeol, AK Plaza Wonju Store Manager; Bae Geonwoo, Manager of Aekyung Chemical; Won Gangsoo, Mayor of Wonju; Ji Eunhee, Head of the Angel Movement Headquarters of the Wonju Social Welfare Council; along with other officials. According to the agreement, AK Plaza plans to support various public interest activities to revitalize the local economy of Wonju, centered around the Wonju store. First, AK Plaza Wonju will present Wonju Love Gift Certificates, which can be used at Wonju traditional markets, to customers using the Wonju store to help activate the traditional market commercial district. Additionally, AK Plaza agreed to sponsor 10,000 accounts and actively participate in promoting the 'Angel Movement,' a support program for marginalized groups that has been operating in Wonju for 20 years.

At the ceremony, Aekyung Group also made a donation to support the restoration of the Gangwon wildfire-affected areas in the first half of this year. AK Holdings, the holding company of Aekyung Group, and Aekyung Chemical, the group's chemical affiliate, agreed to donate funds to the Gangwon Economic Promotion Agency for purchasing saplings for the wildfire-affected areas. The donation will be linked and contributed to Samcheok City, the affected area, through the Gangwon Economic Promotion Agency.

An AK Plaza official said, "We are pleased that AK Plaza Wonju, the only department store in Gangwon Province, is leading efforts to revitalize the local economy and join Aekyung Group in supporting the wildfire-affected areas in Gangwon. AK Plaza will continue to strive for active support that can coexist with the communities where AK Plaza is located."
