Meeting with Advisor Kim Su-il of Indonesia National Pati Mura University
Joo Kyu-il, mayor of Jinju City, Gyeongnam, held an informal meeting to discuss the continuous exchange between Jinju Silk and Indonesian Batik.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] On the 28th, Jo Gyu-il, mayor of Jinju City, Gyeongnam, held a roundtable meeting at Jinju Culture Studio with Kim Soo-il, advisor of Indonesia's National Pattimura University, Professor Hwang Woo-sang of Indonesia's UNA University, and Kwon Soon-gi, president of Gyeongsang National University, to discuss continuous exchanges between Jinju Silk and Indonesian Batik.
On the 7th, Jinju City held a meeting at the Busan Indonesia Center with Indonesian officials including Puan, Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, to promote exchanges between Jinju Silk and Indonesian Batik.
Advisor Kim, who attended the roundtable, is a professor at National Pattimura University, former Honorary Consul General of Indonesia in Busan, and former Secretary-General of the Asia-Pacific Tourism Promotion Organization (TPO).
At the roundtable, Mayor Jo and the attendees confirmed that Jinju Silk and Indonesian Batik are traditional industries with long histories, sharing many commonalities and recognized as valuable cultural heritages. They discussed active strategies for Jinju Silk content to enter the Indonesian market in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Korea-Indonesia diplomatic relations next year.
Mayor Jo explained about the 2023 Asian Weightlifting Championships and requested Indonesian officials to visit Jinju during the event. He also stated, “As the strategic importance of the Indo-Pacific ASEAN region expands globally, we will also expand economic exchange opportunities between Indonesia and Jinju City.”
