Lowering Earth's Temperature by 1 Degree with One Meal I Eat... 2,605 Students from 16 Schools Participate
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Hyeong-seok] The Mokpo City Sustainable Development Council (Chairman Lee Haesong, hereinafter referred to as the Council) was selected for the resident participation budget contest project hosted by the Mokpo Office of Education last year, and from the second semester of this year, it held the ‘Safe Food Environment Education to Save the Earth’ for elementary school students in Mokpo city.
The theme of this education was ‘Lower the Earth's temperature by 1 degree with one meal I eat,’ and it was conducted amid enthusiastic interest from the students.
Through the Mokpo Office of Education Support, schools that wanted lectures were selected, and a total of 120 lectures were conducted. The first session consisted of lectures using PPT and videos, and the second session was a 2-hour education using the self-developed ‘Low Carbon Pizza Making’ board game.
The students were able to feel a sense of accomplishment as they completed the pizza board with pizza ingredients that have low carbon emissions, such as vegetables, fruits, and local agricultural products, keeping in mind the energy consumption and carbon emissions involved in bringing food to their table.
Meanwhile, the environmental education, which involved a total of 2,605 students from 16 schools, included learning about the seriousness of the climate crisis, and they empathized with the suggestion that even by not leaving food waste and eating a little less meat, the climate crisis can be overcome, promising to put it into practice.
