[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Education Committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Council announced on the 28th that after in-depth discussions on the 2023 Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education budget conducted from the 24th to the 25th, it approved a revised proposal with adjustments to the project budget.


The 2023 Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education budget amounts to 5.0077 trillion KRW, an increase of 674.7 billion KRW compared to the previous year, focusing on enhancing educational capabilities to develop students' skills and competencies, operating and establishing a foundation for future-oriented curricula, and proactively building a safe school environment.


The committee members, through the budget adjustment subcommittee, reduced 33.523307 billion KRW based on the validity and rationality of projects, and approved an increase of 9.6695 billion KRW for expanding educational automatic defibrillators to create a safe school environment and establishing a blended education platform to activate smart education.


Chairman Jo Ok-hyun stated, "Next year's budget is the first practical budget for the development of Jeonnam education under the fourth direct election by residents," and added, "I hope the budget will be used like water, possessing balanced gentleness and strength."


He continued, "I ask that the Office of Education execute the budget so that its policies smoothly permeate even small island and remote schools, become a powerful weapon for educational recovery and preparation for future education, and overcome educational disparities and the crisis of regional extinction."


Meanwhile, the budget preliminarily reviewed by the Education Committee will be finally confirmed through the resolution of the plenary session on the 15th of next month after review by the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts.
