[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Kang-su) conducted a ‘Prevention Education on the Four Major Types of Violence (sexual harassment, prostitution, sexual violence, domestic violence)’ for 230 affiliated workers at the district office auditorium on the afternoon of the 28th.


Before the formal education began, Park Kang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, emphasized to the staff the importance of establishing a sound culture of gender equality in the workplace and at home.


Following this, Kim Young-ja, a specialist from Korea Women’s Hotline, gave a four-hour lecture on fostering healthy values, including an introduction to laws related to sexual harassment, prostitution, and sexual violence, and viewing violence from a gender perspective.


Mayor Park Kang-su of Mapo-gu said, “A society where the socially vulnerable are happy is a society where everyone is truly happy,” and added, “I hope today’s education will greatly help establish a healthy sexual culture in the workplace and prevent sexual and domestic violence.”

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 28th that the Small Love Sharing Movement Headquarters and the International WeLoveU Foundation each donated 100 blankets for a warm winter.


At 3:30 p.m. on the 28th, a winter blanket delivery ceremony for winter preparation by the Small Love Sharing Movement Headquarters was held in the mayor’s reception room on the 5th floor of the district office. The ceremony was attended by Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, Lee Nam-sook, CEO of the Small Love Sharing Movement Headquarters, Namgung Moon-seon, Executive Director, and Chae Gye-byeong, Vice Chairman, where 100 blankets worth 5 million KRW were delivered.


At 4 p.m., a warm winter blanket delivery ceremony by the International WeLoveU Foundation followed, attended by Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, Kim Jae-wan, branch manager of the International WeLoveU Foundation, Jeong Il-su, deputy branch manager, and eight members. The foundation donated 100 blankets worth 4.2 million KRW.


Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, expressed gratitude, saying, “We thank the Small Love Sharing Movement Headquarters and the International WeLoveU Foundation for donating blankets so that neighbors in need can spend the winter warmly,” and added, “We will promptly deliver the blankets to places where they are most needed before the weather gets colder.”

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, attended the ‘2022 Dong Resident Welfare Council Performance Sharing Meeting’ held at the Nowon-gu Office auditorium on the 2nd floor at 3 p.m. on the 28th.


Launched in 2011 as the nation’s first, Nowon-gu’s Dong Resident Welfare Council plays a role in caring for vulnerable groups and families in crisis who fall into the blind spots of public assistance.


This event was organized to share outstanding cases among welfare projects promoted by 19 Dong Resident Welfare Councils in the region and to express gratitude to residents who devoted themselves to their neighbors with exceptional passion and volunteer spirit over the past year.


The event was attended by Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, Kim Jun-sung, Chairperson of Nowon-gu Council, Seo Jun-o, Seoul City Council member, and over 160 members and officials of the 19 Dong Resident Welfare Councils. The program proceeded with the national anthem, introduction of guests, commendation of 17 contributors to the activation of the Dong Resident Welfare Council, and presentations of excellent cases from each of the 19 Dongs.

Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) held the ‘11th Living Security Committee Meeting of 2022’ in the district office’s large conference room on the morning of the 28th.


The meeting was attended by about 10 people, including Mayor Kim Tae-woo and members of the Living Security Committee, and proceeded with ▲appointment of new members ▲election of vice-chairman ▲deliberation and resolution on securing welfare recipients’ rights.


The attendees discussed measures to provide appropriate support to vulnerable households, including exemption from collection of security costs for 27 individuals in 23 low-income households who refuse or avoid support or have difficulty maintaining their livelihood.


Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “In these times when vulnerable groups are struggling more due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and difficult economic conditions, the role of the committee in deliberating and resolving directions for basic living security and collection of security costs is very important,” and urged, “Please actively work to ensure that support reaches neighbors in need who are in blind spots and unable to receive assistance.”

Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, was appointed as the one-day honorary branch manager of the National Health Insurance Service Gangdong Branch on the 24th and took care of residents’ health for a day.


The National Health Insurance Service appoints one-day honorary branch managers to provide an opportunity to understand the organization’s systems and policies, and operates a system to communicate and empathize with customers on-site through complaint experience.


On that day, Mayor Lee Soo-hee began her honorary Gangdong branch manager activities by understanding the health insurance system and the branch’s operations. During a meeting with staff, she grasped key issues such as the end of government support for health insurance and exchanged opinions on mutual cooperation to guarantee residents’ health rights. She also encouraged frontline employees while touring the comprehensive civil service office.


She then took on civil complaint counseling duties at the comprehensive civil service office and listened to difficulties from visitors.


Mayor Lee Soo-hee said, “I appreciate the hard work of the staff at the National Health Insurance Service Gangdong Branch who are doing their best for residents’ health on the front lines,” and added, “I will continue to cooperate closely with the Gangdong branch to help residents lead healthier and happier lives.”
