December 8th, 7:30 PM at the Culture and Arts Center: 'Carmina Burana' Performance
Joint Concert by Gimcheon City Choir and Mokpo City Boys and Girls Choir
[Mokpo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Hyeong-seok] The Mokpo City Choir will hold its 78th regular concert on December 8th at 7:30 PM at the Mokpo Culture and Arts Center.
This performance features the cantata "Carmina Burana" by German composer Carl Orff, considered one of the choral works everyone should hear at least once in their lifetime.
"Carmina Burana" was completed in one year by Carl Orff, who was strongly inspired by a manuscript of medieval secular poems compiled by German philologist Schmeller. Orff selected 24 poems out of over 200 to create the piece.
The entire work highlights the characteristics of the poems with unique rhythms and melodies, featuring accompaniment that emphasizes the harmony of percussion instruments and diverse choral pieces enhanced by dance movements.
For this concert, top Korean soprano Professor Park Mi-ja, tenor Professor Kang Dong-myeong, and baritone Professor Kim Dong-seop are invited as soloists. To maximize the choral effect, the Gimcheon City Choir (conductor Lee Tae-won) and the Mokpo City Boys and Girls Choir (conductor Kim Tae-young) will also be invited.
Additionally, collaborations with Dongshin University Modern Dance Team, Kerox Percussion Ensemble, and leading Electone performer Professor Kim Soo-hee will provide a rich and enjoyable experience.
A choir official said, "We hope that through the city choir's performance, people will gain strength and comfort to finish 2022 well and welcome 2023 more brightly and vigorously."
The concert is free of charge for all seats, and advance reservations are available through the online ticket link.
