'US Reports: US Provides South Korean Shells to Ukraine'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hee-jun] The Ministry of National Defense stated that the export of artillery shells to the United States is being negotiated on the premise that the U.S. is the final user. This is a response to foreign media reports suggesting that the U.S. is importing Korean shells to support Ukraine.
At a regular briefing on the 28th, Moon Hong-sik, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense, responded to a question about foreign media reports claiming "the U.S. is supplying shells imported from Korea to Ukraine," saying, "Export negotiations are underway between the U.S. Department of Defense and our ammunition manufacturers, and the premise that the U.S. is the final user remains unchanged."
Deputy Spokesperson Moon reiterated, "There is no change from the position we have previously stated."
He added, "The foreign media cited anonymous U.S. officials in their reports. It seems that more accurate fact-checking is needed regarding this."
Earlier, CNN in the U.S. reported, citing an anonymous U.S. Department of Defense official, that the U.S. plans to purchase 100,000 shells from Korea to provide to Ukraine.
