O Tae-wan Uiryeong County Governor, First Policy Speech of the 8th Elected Term 'Opened a 500 Billion Won Budget' Oh Tae-wan, Governor of Uiryeong County, Gyeongnam.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] Oh Tae-wan, the governor of Uiryeong County, Gyeongnam, emphasized the ‘Success DNA’ during his administrative speech at the 271st regular session of the Uiryeong County Council on the 25th, aiming to instill confidence in the residents.

Governor Oh presented the vision for the 8th elected administration through his administrative speech on the 2023 budget proposal at the Uiryeong County Council.

First, reflecting on the past five months of the 8th elected administration, he listed achievements such as the successful official investment attraction from companies for the first time in six years and securing 100 billion won in government contest project funds. In particular, he self-assessed that the Rich Rich Festival, Uiryeong’s wealthy-themed festival, showed potential as a representative festival of South Korea and concluded successfully.

Governor Oh said, “During the festival, 100,000 people visited Uiryeong and received a full dose of ‘wealth energy.’ The media and local community gave unanimous praise,” adding, “For the duration of the festival, Uiryeong transformed into a ‘young city,’ and true to the ‘wealth festival,’ the possibility of local residents becoming wealthy was also seen.”

He stated, “The ‘Success DNA’ was implanted through this festival,” and added, “Although we have a small population and face extinction risks, it has been proven that if we unite with the residents, we can accomplish anything.”

Governor Oh presented five major tasks as the direction for the 8th elected administration’s governance: ▲promoting strategic projects for Uiryeong’s economic development ▲attracting contest projects necessary for rural revitalization ▲establishing Uiryeong-style welfare services ▲creating a joyful educational experience city ▲making Uiryeong a place where youth want to stay.

In particular, Uiryeong County prepared the largest budget in its history of 500 billion won and submitted it to the county council. The expenditure budget for next year is 500.8 billion won, an increase of 19.4 billion won compared to this year, marking the first time Uiryeong has entered the 500 billion won budget era.

The county allocated the budget as follows: 117.4 billion won for agriculture and forestry, 30.9 billion won for education, culture, and tourism, 84.5 billion won for social welfare, 101.3 billion won for industry, transportation, and regional development, 52.3 billion won for environment and health, 39.1 billion won for general public administration, public order and safety, and 75.3 billion won for contingency and other areas.

Governor Oh said, “The unprecedented achievement of securing 100 billion won in contest project funds has opened the door to the 500 billion won budget era in Uiryeong’s history. This is all thanks to the residents,” and added, “If Uiryeong can take a step forward, I will face any difficulties with confidence.”
