[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] A man in his 30s who conspired with the mastermind of a bodycam phishing scheme, a childhood friend from elementary school, and pocketed tens of millions of won was sentenced to prison.
On the 28th, the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 10 (Judge Hyun Sun-hye) announced that it sentenced A (34), who was indicted for aiding and abetting extortion and fraud, to four months in prison.
Last April, A received a total of about 69 million won from 10 victims, including B (27), who suffered from bodycam phishing. Among this, he was charged with transferring 11.1 million won to another account to aid and abet each crime.
Investigations revealed that A met C, the mastermind of voice phishing and bodycam phishing, who was a childhood friend from elementary school, and was proposed by C to act as a cash withdrawal agent, leading to his involvement in the crimes.
Subsequently, an unidentified woman approached men through a smartphone video chat application and induced them to perform obscene acts. She then threatened to distribute the videos to extort money, which was transferred to dummy bank accounts. The court explained the sentencing rationale, stating, "The victims' damages have not been restored, and the victims want punishment. Considering that the defendant is remorseful and was sentenced to imprisonment in April this year for a similar case, with the appeal trial ongoing, the sentence was determined comprehensively."
