Measure Speaking Skills with AI, 170 Companies Adopt 'AI Tutor'

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] LG CNS announced on the 28th that it has rebranded its English conversation artificial intelligence (AI) tutor application from 'Mission English' to 'Butter Time' and is strengthening its English conversation learning content.

'Butter Time' is a compound word combining 'butter pronunciation,' which means fluent English pronunciation like a native speaker, and 'time.' Users of 'Butter Time' can learn English conversation anytime and anywhere with AI that has studied tens of thousands of English sentences.

Anyone who downloads the 'Butter Time' app can use 741 types of English conversation content for free. About half of these, 371, consist of content that can be used in daily life and travel, such as ▲ordering food at a restaurant ▲explaining symptoms at a hospital ▲exchanging money while traveling. The remaining 370 are bestseller textbook contents from famous English instructors. The app includes 37 English textbook contents such as ▲Easy English (by Kim Taeyeon) ▲5-Minute English Conversation (by Park Yunjin) ▲Spencer's American English (by Spencer McKenna).

'Butter Time' also predicts official English test scores such as TOEIC Speaking and OPIc using AI technology. The AI analyzes pronunciation, speaking speed, and answer similarity to measure the user's conversation skills. The more learning content provided by 'Butter Time' the user completes, the higher the accuracy of the predicted score.

LG CNS offers various AI tutor services including 'Butter Time.' These include the customized AI tutor 'Speaking Class,' which allows teachers to create AI English conversation learning content themselves, and 'Toast,' an AI tutor optimized for TOEIC Speaking test preparation.

LG CNS AI tutor services have been adopted by about 170 companies. Various companies in distribution, finance, construction, including LG affiliates, are using it for employee English education. LG CNS received English education certification from the Korea Association of Teachers of English (KATE) for its AI tutor service. This is the first case in Korea where an AI-based English education program has received KATE certification.
