[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Choi] Kakao's joint ordering platform Kakao Makers announced on the 28th that the cumulative transaction amount of the 'Jegabeochi' project, which opens sales channels for Korean agricultural, livestock, and marine products, has surpassed 10 billion KRW.
Jegabeochi is a project launched in August 2021 that supports agricultural, livestock, and marine products and processed foods nationwide, which are expected to have oversupply, to be recognized at fair prices and sold on Kakao Makers.
Through Jegabeochi, Kakao Makers has sold approximately 2,300 tons of agricultural, livestock, and marine products to date, with over 500,000 consumers purchasing them. The cumulative number of sold items is about 80. The agricultural product with the highest sales volume was Jeju washed winter radish, and the single item with the highest sales amount and popularity was Gangwon-do Dongsong Nonghyup's Metbugi brand Cheorwon Odae rice.
Going forward, Kakao Makers plans to introduce various agricultural, livestock, and marine products through Jegabeochi, creating opportunities to connect producers and consumers. Next year, they will showcase products from young farmers, small-scale but competitively differentiated strong small farmers, and products with the unique characteristics and excellent quality of traditional markets, as well as launch private brand (PB) products.
Jung Young-joo, head of Kakao Makers, said, “This result comes from continuously discovering new items and operating diverse promotional events to ensure that Korean agricultural, livestock, and marine products can shine through Jegabeochi in line with the project's meaning and purpose.” He added, “We will strive to create a virtuous cycle effect that allows more consumers to experience Korean agricultural, livestock, and marine products and helps more producers, continuing the value of coexistence.”
